Occupational Therapy

Our Approach

At REConnections® DIR® Center, occupational therapy is grounded in the DIRFloortime® model. We start by understanding your child as a whole person, not a checklist of deficits.

We follow your child's lead. We build on their strengths and interests. And we use play as the primary vehicle for growth because play is how children learn best. We know that a child who is engaged and connected makes far more progress than one who is going through the motions. That’s why our occupational therapy services are provided in the context of a safe relational environment build upon trust and shared joy.

Every child receives an individualized treatment plan built around their specific sensory profile, developmental level, and personal goals. No two plans look alike, because no two children are alike.

Is OT Right for My Child?

Children who benefit from Occupational Therapy may experience one or more of the following challenges:

  • Sensitivity to touch, sound, movement, or other sensory input

  • Difficulty with handwriting, scissors, or other fine motor tasks

  • Trouble with balance, coordination, or body awareness

  • Meltdowns, shutdowns, or difficulty managing big emotions

  • Challenges with self-care routines like dressing or feeding

  • Avoiding or seeking out certain textures, movements, or sensations

  • Difficulty staying focused or regulated in school or at home

Our Sensory Gym

Our fully equipped sensory gym is designed to support the specific sensory and motor needs of neurodivergent children. It is a carefully curated therapeutic environment where meaningful, targeted work happens through movement, exploration, and play.

Equipment and features are selected to support vestibular and proprioceptive input, tactile exploration, sensory processing, fine and gross motor skill development, regulation, and body awareness

Where We Focus

Sensory Integration

Helping children process and respond to sensory input in ways that support — rather than disrupt — their everyday life. We work to understand each child's unique sensory profile and build tolerance, flexibility, and self-awareness through meaningful sensory experiences in a safe, supportive environment.

Self-Regulation & Emotional Regulation

Building a child's ability to recognize and manage their own internal states — whether that's calming down from overstimulation, building up energy when they're dysregulated, or navigating the emotional demands of school and home. We focus on co-regulation first, because connection with a trusted adult is the foundation all self-regulation skills are built on.

Fine Motor Skills Development

Building hand strength, pencil grasp, scissor skills, and hand-eye coordination through engaging, play-based activities. We support handwriting readiness and everyday fine motor tasks in a way that feels motivating and fun — not like a drill.

Gross Motor Skills Development

Supporting balance, coordination, body awareness, and physical confidence through movement-based play. Whether your child avoids physical activity or seeks it out intensely, we meet them where they are and help them build strength and confidence in their body.

YOUR Team

REConnections® DIR® Center is built around a multidisciplinary model of care. Your child's occupational therapist works in close collaboration with our Speech-Language Pathologists, Music Therapists, Tutors, and DIR® Caregiver Coaching team — communicating regularly, sharing observations, and aligning around your child's individualized goals.

For families who access multiple services at REConnections, this means your child receives a cohesive, coordinated experience rather than a collection of disconnected appointments. The continuity between our services makes a meaningful difference in the quality and consistency of your child's progress.
